Blog – roof waterproofing advice

A damp patch on the ceiling is only the visible part of the problem. The cause of a leaking roof is often elsewhere, so it is worth knowing which points to check first.

When waterproofing a roof, it is not only the material used that matters, but also the weather in which the work is carried out. We explain which periods are most favourable and which conditions can prevent the work from going ahead.

After heavier rain, it is not unusual for water to remain temporarily on a flat roof. However, if puddles are still there days later, this could be due to an inadequate slope, blocked drainage or even deformation of the roof. Persistent ponding water should therefore not be ignored.

An autumn roof inspection can help you spot minor defects before frost sets in. We have compiled the points worth checking in houses and apartment buildings.

Minor roof faults may be barely noticeable in autumn, but in winter they can cause leaks, mould and further structural damage. We have gathered the five most common warning signs, along with a brief inspection guide.

Flat roof waterproofing prices in 2026 depend on several factors: the condition of the roof, the existing layers, drainage, the choice of materials and the conditions in which the work is carried out.

Overheating in the attic during summer is a common problem, but it does not happen without a reason. The roof's direct heat load, an inadequate roof build-up and insufficient roof thermal insulation can combine to make the upper floor difficult to keep comfortable.

Leaks from a flat roof rarely develop overnight. Minor cracks, lifting, faulty connections and ponding water can cause serious structural problems over time. We have summarised what can lead to leaks, when a repair is enough and when re-waterproofing becomes necessary.

Thermal insulation matters outside the winter heating season too. In summer, heat from the roof significantly reduces indoor comfort, so it is often worth starting at the roof when planning an upgrade.

Roof insulation is not only about preventing leaks. Waterproofing and thermal insulation together determine how durable, safe and up to date a roof remains.
